English dinghy from CORNISH CRABBER. This shipyard is well known for building small, modern yet traditionally styled sailing yachts. The hull shape and sail plan are inspired by traditional English shellfish fishing yachts (hence the name Crabber). Their boats are meticulously built in the UK from polyester. These top-of-the-range yachts are particularly robust and sought-after. The Cornish Crabber 12 is built using vacuum infusion technology (a technique used on ocean racing boats to reduce hull weight and improve build quality).

The first yachts in the shipyard's range were the Limpet Dinghy (10 feet) and then the Cornish Crabber 12 (for 12 feet or 3.75m).

The Cornish Crabber 12 can be compared to a Caravelle or a Skellig in France. It can carry up to 4 people on a family outing. The advantage of this dinghy over the Caravelle or Skellig is its low weight and compactness. Weighing just 120 kgs, it can be handled by a single person for launching. Storage and handling are also facilitated by its small size.

The cockpit can be expanded to comfortably accommodate 4 adults. Depending on the day's sailing schedule, you can quickly change the interior layout of the benches, opening up the space or allowing more people to sit comfortably. Watertight storage compartments are also available for cruising and hiking.

It is extremely stable for its size and weight. This stability means that children and novices can board in complete safety. The boom is high. It's unsinkable, self-bailing (all the water on board escapes automatically) and particularly easy to right alone in the event of desalination. So it's safer than older Caravelles.

Rigging is simple and easy. It's also possible to reduce the sail area by reefing. Last but not least, masting takes just a few minutes, which means you can sail more often, for longer, and easily change waters.

It can also be rowed or motorized.

The Cornish Crabber 12 belongs to a special category of dinghies, known as rando dinghies. This category is unique. They are not to be confused with the sporty dinghies so well known in sailing centers. The approach to sailing with rando dinghies allows you to concentrate on the pleasure of sailing, and forget all the worries and complexity that can be involved in setting up a more conventional sailboat (mast only possible in a minute, neoprene not compulsory, etc.). If you'd like to know more about this rando concept and discover other models, watch the video on YOUTUBE: PUFFINS TREK "comment bien choisir son dériveur de rando". Possible options (at extra cost) : Awning, road and launch trailer, spinnaker.
