Ad details : Caravelle Autre marque for sale in Brest
English family dinghy MIRROR (identical to the small sailboats Gazelle de Sables or Skellig, a sort of mini Caravelle) in perfect condition. A small, modern sailboat with traditional styling (maintenance-free). The MIRROR was originally designed to be built in the garage over a winter, using wood. This is a rare example that combines the charm of wood finishes with the maintenance-free polyester hull.
The MIRROR is an ultra-flexible dinghy. It weighs the same as a kayak (45kgs) but can comfortably accommodate three people. It can take you for a day on an island with a picnic, or for a multi-day trek with a tent mounted directly on the boat. You'll even find several epic MIRROR travel stories on the Internet, worthy of Yann Quenet and his Baluchon (See Youtube Puffins Trek Interview Yann QUENET).
Model: MIRROR DINGHY
Year : 2001
Construction material: Polyester hull (like 99% of pleasure boats, maintenance-free) and epoxy-coated wood finishes
Maximum engine power: 3.5 hp
Length: 3.30m
Width: 1.39m
Weight: 45 kgs (can be launched alone easily with a beach cart or small removable launch wheels not supplied)
Sail area: 6.5m2 + symmetrical spinnaker
The MIRROR can be compared to a small Caravelle, a Skellig or a Gazelle des Sables in France. It can carry up to 3 people on a family outing. The advantage of this dinghy over the Caravelle or Skellig is its low weight and compactness. Weighing just 45 kgs, it can be handled by a single person for launching. Small removable launch wheels are available to make launching on the beach even easier (not supplied). Storage and handling are also facilitated by its small size.
It is extremely stable for its size and weight. This stability means that children and novices can board in complete safety. The boom is high. It's unsinkable, and particularly easy to right alone in the event of desalination. So it's safer than older Caravelles.
Rigging is simple and easy. It is also possible to reduce sail area by removing the jib and moving the mast forward. Last but not least, masting takes just a few minutes, which means you can sail more often, for longer, and change water surfaces more easily.
It can also be rowed or motorized.
It can also be used to participate in rallies of old rigs and maritime festivals (Brest 2024, Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan, etc.). Sailing and rowing enthusiasts also regularly gather to sail together!
The MIRROR belongs to a special category of dinghies, known as rando dinghies. This category is unique. They are not to be confused with the sporty dinghies so well known in sailing centers. The approach to sailing with rando dinghies allows you to concentrate on the pleasure of sailing, and forget all the worries and complexity that can be involved in setting up a more conventional sailboat (mast only possible in a minute, neoprene not compulsory, etc.). If you'd like to know more about this rando concept and discover other models, watch the video on YOUTUBE: PUFFINS TREK "comment bien choisir son dériveur de rando". Possible options (at extra cost) : Combined road trailer and launch, awning, high-performance rudder and daggerboard, spinnaker,...
